Rob Szymanski is a partner in Eclipse Law Corporation. He specializes in the representation of theatrical motion picture and television writers, directors, actors, producers, and production companies. He also negotiates deals for the sale of motion picture rights for novels, comic books, life stories, video games, remakes, and similar properties.
Before launching Eclipse, Rob cut his teeth at several top entertainment firms, where he worked with high profile clients such as Johnny Depp, Quentin Tarantino, the Weitz Brothers, Darren Aronofsky, Diane Lane, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Tarsem Singh, Mike Judge, Lawrence Bender and numerous A-list writers including Elliot & Rossio (“Shrek”; “Pirates of the Carribean”), Purvis & Wade (various “James Bond” pictures), Werb & Colleary (“Face-Off”), and Andrew Marlow (“Air Force One”).
Rob graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School. He earned his undergraduate degree from U.C. Berkeley, where he was awarded Highest Honors, High Distinction in General Scholarship and Phi Beta Kappa.
Rob won First National Prize in the Nathan Burkam Memorial Copyright Competition (ASCAP) for his article entitled “Audio Pastiche: Digital Sampling, Intermediate Copying, Fair Use,” which was published in the UCLA Entertainment Law Review and then re-published in A Copyright Anthology, The Technology Frontier.
Rob is consistently recognized by his peers and in the media as one of the best young lawyers working in the entertainment industry today. The Hollywood Reporter elected Rob to their Next Generation Class of 2002, honoring the top 35 executives in entertainment 35 years or younger. He has also been interviewed (together with Marty Bowen of UTA and manager Mikkel Bondesen) about the sale of spec screenplays by Ingenue Magazine and he has been profiled in various industry-related publications, including L.A. Confidential and the Young Hollywood issue of Detour Magazine.
Rob earned his reputation in Hollywood by taking a highly pro-active approach to representing his clients. In addition to being an aggressive and thorough attorney, Rob works closely with agents and managers to help build his clients’ careers. He utilizes his vast network of industry contacts to help generate opportunities for his clients and to make strategic introductions. He has a keen eye for talent and is often involved in discovering new artists and helping them find representation.
Rob is a member of the State Bar of California. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the UCLA Entertainment Law Symposium.
