Film Independent announces Lab scripters

August 16, 2011

Film Independent’s 12th annual Screenwriters Lab has announced 10 scripters for the workshop which is now underway.

Sponsored by WGA West, Lab provides an intensive five-week program that aims to help the chosen screenwriters improve their writing ability and current film projects. This year’s Lab Mentors include scripter Jeff Stockwell and helmer Karyn Kusama. Corey Mandell, Jacob Forman, Mary Sweeney and Meg LeFauve will also be on hand as Lab Advisors. Guest speakers include Maryam Keshavarz and Mike White.

“Many of the films that have been selected for our other Labs and gone into production began in the Screenwriter Labs,” said John Welsh, director of artist development. “Having the time to fully address the script and make it as strong as possible is absolutely critical.”

After completing the Lab, scripters become Film Independent Fellows and are eligible to join the Indie Writers Caucus of WGA West.

A list of the selected writers and projects can be found at filmindependent.org.
